Program History
The
history of the Fitchburg State men's track team is a long and
storied one. There have been 55 Track All-Americans at the college
since 1977, paced by Brian Crossman, who was a 13-time All-American
from 1985-88.
There
have been seven National Champions, most recently being, Kris
Theriault, who won the Javelin title in 1994. Three athletes
have gone onto the Olympic Trials, including Theriault and Steeplechaser,
Jason Cullinane in 1996. One Falcon has competed in the Olympics-sprinter
Willis Toddman in 1988.
As
a team, Fitchburg State has won three MASCAC Track Championships,
including a title in 1992, and two MASCAC Cross Country Championships.
Under
the direction of head coach Jim Jellison, the Falcons are on
the fast track to once again becoming one of the top teams in
New England.
You
want to talk about success, let's talk about the Fitchburg State
women's track and cross country programs. Under the direction
of head coach Jim Jellison since 1979, the Falcons have won the
MASCAC championships six out of the last nine years and the MASCAC
cross country title three times in the last seven years. Overall,
Jellison has won six cross country crowns and has an ECAC championship
under his belt. Fitchburg won the ECAC championship in 1984.
Along
with team success has come tremendous individual success as well.
there have been 48 All-American performances at Fitchburg State
since 1980, including four National Champions. The All-New England,
All-ECAC and All-MASCAC performers are too numberous to mention.

About Our Facilities
Cross
Country
The city of Fitchburg offers a wide variety of terrain for the
team to train on. FSC benefits from running in the "second
hilliest city in the U.S.". Aside from the abundance of hills
there is an Audobon Society nearby offering miles of challenging
trails as well as the long peaceful ones. The Men's and Women's
race course is set in a serene city park complete with gazebos
and a beautiful pond which is the year round home to dozens of
swans and ducks.
Indoor/Outdoor
Track
In the summer of 2000, the college opened a new $12.6 million Recreation
Center. In addition to serving as the home of the Falcons Basketball
and Volleyball squads, the Rec Center offers a state-of-the-art
fitness center, a 25 meter swimming pool, three basketball courts,
two classrooms, two raquetball courts an indoor running track and
a dance-aerobics studio. The building is located on North Street
just south of the main section of campus. The outdoor facility
underwent a $4M renovation in 2006 which includes a world-class
8-lane Mondo surface track, two fully caged throwing areas, two
horizontal jumping pits and a synthetic javelin runway. This surely
is one of the finest venues in all of New England.
