
Falcons Youth Rising to Power
05/03/08
The Fitchburg State Track teams were led by their underclassmen Saturday at the NE DIII Championships hosted by The Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT.
Freshmen Carlos DeLaRosa and Sophomore Brandon Jean each earned NE All-Star awards by placing in their respective events–Long Jump and Javelin. DeLaRosa also competed in the Triple Jump, 200M and anchored the 4x100M relay team. Freshman DJ Trinque and Sophomore Devon Jennings both turned in strong efforts in the Javelin and 100M respectively, just missing All-Star placing by finishing 9th and 12th.
Freshman Julie Almstong lowered her season best in the 100M Hurdles, but her 17.07 effort came up just short placing 16th. She then doubled up taking 15th in the 400M hurdles.
Other athletes who qualified and competed for the Falcons were: JR Keon Valcourt (Steeplechase), FR Chris Grubel and SO Peter Tervo (4x100M), JR Brian Schell (4x400), SR Gretchen Adams (Javelin), FR Erin Abbot (High Jump), FR Steph Jarvis, FR Ali Landry and JR Marla Cavaretta (4x100M).

FSC Men and Women Excel at MASCAC Championships

The Falcon's track teams both had tremendous showings at the MASCAC league championships hosted by Rhode Island College in Providence.
The men's team had their strongest showing in several years taking 2nd place with 142 points, while the women placed 5th with 80 points in one of the closets scoring meets in history where only 6 points separated them from 2nd place. Many athletes turned in season best efforts to contribute to the team successes.
Highlighting the day were Gretchen Adams and Keon Valcourt who both claimed league champion titles. Adams took home gold in both the Javelin (106-9) and Hammer (122-2) and Valcourt won his second title in the 3000M Steeplechase (9:57.7). Adams also earned all-star status (top 6) in the shot put and Discus contributing 23 points to the women's team score total while Valcourt earned all-star status in the 1500M and 800M racking up 24 points for the men's team.

Six Athletes Qualify for NE DIII Championships!

Freshmen Julie Almstrom and Carlos DeLaRosa both turned in exceptional performance efforts today at the MIT spring invitational leading four other teammates who also turned in DIII Championship qualifying performances. Almstrom qualified in the 100HH (17.26) and 400IH (69.02), while DeLaRosa left his mark in the 100M (11.33); 200M (22.92) and LJ (20-9.5). Javelin throwers Brandon Jean and DJ Trinque upped their DIII qualifying marks to 182-10 and 173-02 respectively. They placed 1st and 3rd overall on the day. Devon Jennings and Erin Abbott also joined the qualifying contingent with their efforts of 11.37 in the 100M and 4-11 in the HJ. FSC now has qualifying marks in 10 different events.
Fitchburg State travels to RIC next weekend for the MASCAC league championships.
Tufts Snowflake Invitational

Last weeks weather at NU seemed mild compared to what FSC faced this week at Tufts. Snow flurries, 28 degrees and a whipping wind greeted the Falcons leaving some to wonder whether this was spring track or late fall XC.
Despite the injury inducing weather, several strong performances were turned in, including: Kyle Schaeffer - 10K (34:56.07), Matt Spano -1500M (4:21.06), Dan Schmaelzle - 400IH (64.11), Keon Valcourt - Steeple (10:18.41), Kyle Callahan - LJ (19-6), Bobby Brouillette - SP (36-10), DJ Trinque - Hammer (121-3), Julie Almstrom - 100HH (17.6), Emily Sullivan - Steeple (13:49.83), Erin Abbott - HJ (4-7) and Gretchen Adams - Jav (94-7).
FSC will be hosting their next meet, The "Jim Sheehan Memorial" on 4/5.

Outdoor Season Opener at NU

A partial squad for the Fitchburg State College Men's track team braved the cold and wind Saturday at the Northeastern University Invitational in Dedham for their outdoor season opener. Highlighting the day were Devon Jennings as the top collegiate runner in the 200M (23.6) and Brandon Jean who qualified for the DIII New England's and ECAC championships with a Javelin throw of 181-9. Jennings also turned in a strong 4th place effort in the 100M.
Other strong first meet efforts were turned in by DJ Trinque (Javelin, Hammer and Discus), Keon Valcourt (10K), Denard Mondesir (110M Hurdles), Chris Grubel (400M) and Phil McCormack who PR'd in the 1500M.
Full teams for both the men and women will be competing at the Tufts University Snowflake Classic March 29th.
Falcons Wrap Up Indoor Season at ECAC

The Fitchburg State men's track team wrapped up their indoor track season at the ECAC Championships Saturday, hosted by Harvard University.
Representing the Falcons were Devon Jennings, 15th in the 55M dash (6.66), Brian Schell, 17th in the 500M (69.03) and the 4x800M relay team of Keon Valcourt, Phil McCormack, Matt Spano and Adam Parslow, 22nd in 8:19.30.
Both the men and women's teams have a week off from competition, before starting up their outdoor campaigns on March 22nd.
4 x800M Relay Team Qualifies for ECAC

Keon Valcourt burned a 1:59.4 leadoff relay leg, then handed off to Matt Spano to Phil McCormack to anchor man Adam Parslow en route to an ECAC qualifying time of 8:13.93 at the All-NE Championships at BU. These 4 will join the individual qualifiers Devon Jennings (55M - 6.64) and Brian Schell (600M - 1:26.1) to represent the Falcons at next weeks ECAC Championship hosted by Harvard University.
Trinque Earns DIII New England All-Star Honors

Freshman shot putter D.J. Trinque (Ayer, MA) finished 7th in the men's shot put at the New England DIII Track and Field Championships hosted by Tufts University. D.J.'s throw was yet another season best performance and his 46' 1.5" toss moved him up to be the number two ranked freshman in NE.
Also having strong performances in the meet and running season best times were the Distance Medley relay of Kyle Schaeffer, Jon Miganowicz, Albert Wong and Tim Wood placing 14th overall in 11:29.01; the 4 x 400 relay of Chris Grubel, Peter Tervo, Devon Jennings and Brian Schell placing 15th in 3:35.52, and the 4 x 800M relay of Keon Valcourt, Matt Spano, Phil McCormack and Adam Parslow who placed 12th in 8:18.62.
The women's meet was hosted by Smith College and saw several great FSC efforts. Julie Almstrom narrowly missed her season best effort in the 55M Hurdles as she ran 9.34 good enough for 10th overall in NE DIII. The women's 4 x 200M relay team of Almstrom, Marla Cavaretta, Ali Landry and Jen Tabor ran their season best effort en route to 17th place finish in 1:54.87.
Falcons place third at MASCAC Championships!

The Fitchburg State College men's and women's indoor track teams both placed third in the MASCAC Championships hosted by the University of Southern Maine on Saturday, February 15th.
The men's team had 22 individual all-stars (top 6 in the meet) and 2 individual event champions; Kyle Callahan in the Triple Jump (42-10) and Brian Schell in the 600M (1:26.00). The women's team had 12 individual all-stars and 2 champions; Lisa Carney in the Pole Vault (8-0) and Julie Almstrom in the 55M Hurdles (9.28). Carney's vault performance also set a new school record for FSC.
Some of the all-star efforts include: Carlos DeLaRosa who placed 2nd in the Triple Jump (42-6), a NE DIII qualifying mark; Julie Almstrom, 2nd in the 400M (63.78), also a NE DIII qualifying mark; and Lindsey Suprenant who earned all-star status in 5 events (High Jump, Long Jump, Triple Jump, Shot Put and Weight Throw).
The Falcons will be competing in the NE DIII Championships next weekend (2/22). The men's team will be sending 13 athletes while the women will be sending 7.
Falcons are ready for the Championships!

Bring it on! The Fitchburg State College Falcons track teams just completed their final tune-up meet before the league championships next saturday by turning in another 35 season best performances this past weekend.
Despite a very late night due to a bus breakdown, the Falcons confidence is soaring after competing at both the BU Valentine meet and the Smith Invitational.
Like they have been doing all season long, the men and women continue to show steady improvement. Matt Spano, coming off a 6 week layoff due to a foot injury, brought the Falcon faithful to their feet winning his mile heat with a thrilling finishing kick moving from third place to take the win in the final 80 meters in 4:44.3. Another thrilling race was run by the men's DMR relay team of Kyle Schaeffer, Peter Tervo, Tim Wood and Albert Wong. Each runner ran season best (or very close to it) performances in their relay legs despite never really being challenged as they dominated the race winning in 11:30.62.
FSC also had several new members competing for the first time this season, including Ciara Savalier (Shot and Weight); Carlos DeLaRosa (55M, Long and Triple) and Brandon Ladeau (55M and High Jump).
Next week's Alliance/MASCAC Championship meet (2/16) will be hosted by the University of Southern Maine in Gorham.
USM Invitational

A whopping 37 "season best" performances were turned in by the men's and women's track teams on 2/2/08 at the USM invitational.
Leading the way with D3 Championship qualifying marks were Julie Almstrom (55 Hurdles), Devon Jennings (55M), DJ Trinque (Shot) and Kyle Callahan (Triple Jump).
Also giving season best efforts were: Cardell Henderson, Kevon Plouffe, Curtis Flemming, Julie Almstrom and Stephanie Jarvis (55M); Devon Jennings, Almstrom, Marla Cavaretta, Jarvis, Lisa Carney, Brittney Tessier and Carlie Roy (200M), Chris Grubel (400M); Jon Miganowicz and Brett Mello (600M); Phil McCormack (800M); Adam Parlsow, Matt Spano, Tim Wood, Brad Harkins and Albert Wong (Mile); McCormack and Wood (3000M); Plouffe and Curtis Flemming (Shot); DJ Trinque (Weight); Kyle Callahan (Long Jump); Lindsey Suprenant and Almstrom (Triple Jump); Emily Sullivan (Pole Vault); Erin Abbott (High Jump); Keon Valcourt, Miganowicz, McCormack and Parslow (4x800) and Cavaretta, Jen Tabor, Ali Landry and Almstrom (4x200M).
Outstanding effort recognitions go to Julie Almstrom who competed in 5 events; Tim Wood who smashed his mile best by over 6 seconds then came back to run a personal best in the 3000M; Kyle Callahan for great efforts in both the long and triple jump; DJ Trinque who PR'd in both throws and Lindsey Suprenant with a huge improvement in the weight throw.
Both teams will be competing at the Smith College Invitational on 2/9/08.
Boston University Invitational

The Fitchburg State Falcon track teams journeyed to Boston on Friday and Saturday (1/25-1/26) to compete in the BU Invitational which hosted 45 schools from across the country going head-to-head with Division 1 powerhouses such as Duke University, Providence College and Seton Hall.
Brian Schell added his name to the list of Falcons who have qualified for the D3 Championships with a mark of 68.33 in the 500M run.
FSC sent only a partial squad to this meet, but they made a lot of noise as nearly all athletes turned in season best performances including: Brandon Jean - Shot (37-1) and Weight; Erin Abbott - 200M (31.06); Peter Tervo - 200M (23.97); Chris Grubel - 200M (24.01); Devon Jennings - 200M (24.37); Kyle Callahan - 200M (24.17); Julie Almstrom - 400M (64.82); Ali Landry - 400M (67.41); Jon Miganowicz - 800M; Brad Harkins - 800M; Tim Wood - 800M; Adam Parslow - 3000M (9:29) and Kyle Schaeffer and Brian Lawlor in the Mile. Lawlor, a baseball player turned distance runner, turned in the most improved performance as he knocked 6 seconds off his mile PR to cross the line in 4:56.18.
The entire FSC team will travel to Maine next weekend to compete at the University of Southern Maine.
Tufts Invitational

After a 5 week hiatus from competition, the FSC Falcons were ready to regain their form at Tufts University on Saturday.
Transfer student DJ Trinque had little rust as he quickly qualified for the post season with DIII entry mark of 13.39m (43' 11") in the men's shot put. Julie Almstrom, who has already qualified for the DIII meet, lowered her season best effort in the 55m Hurdles with a blazing time of 7.47.
Other men turning in strong season best performances include: Eric Perdomo and Zach Hertel-Therrien in the 55M; Chris Grubel - 400m; Tim Wood - 800M; Phil McCormack, Albert Wong and Kyle Schaeffer in the 1000m; Adam Parslow and Wong -3000m and Brandon Jean - Shot and Weight.
Other women turning in strong season best performances include: Almstrong and Marla Cavaretta in the 55M; Ali Landry- 200m; Emily Sullivan- 800M and Lindsey Suprenant in the Shot.
Several athletes will be competing at the BU Invitational the weekend of 1/25-26 while the rest will be tuning up for the next full team competition the following week.
12/8/07 Smith Invitational
The Fitchburg State College Falcons' Men's and Women's track teams
both had impressive showings today at the Smith College Invitational
in Northhampton, Mass.
Devon Jennings and Julie Almstrom got thing rolling early with post
season DIII New England qualifying marks in the 55M dash with a 6.64
and 8.01 respectively. Jennings' mark also qualifies for the ECAC
championships. Almstrom followed up her dash with a qualifying time
in the 55M Hurdles racing to 3rd place in 9.51. Several relay teams
capped the qualifying performances with the women's 4x200M relay of
Ali Landry, Jen Tabor, Marla Cavaretta and Stephanie Jarvis followed
by the 4x800M relay team of Emily Sullivan, Heather Nichols, Kristina
Gagnon and Tess Godin. The men's 4x800M qualified as well winning the
race with fine running by Keon Valcourt, Jon Miganowicz, Brad Harkins
and Adam Parslow.
Other strong performances were delivered by; Brandon Jean, 3rd in
Shot Put (39-4), Kyle Callahan, 5th in 55M (6.95) and 1st in Triple
Jump (41-8), Tess Godin, 2nd in 1000M (3:21.4), 5th in Mile (5:46),
Lindsey Surprenant, 4th in Weight Throw (30-10), Brian Schell, 2nd in
600M (1:26.61) and Chris Grubel, 3rd in Long Jump (19-9).
The Falcons are now heading into exam week, followed by a long
holiday break and won't compete again as a team until January 18th,
2008.
12/1/07 Indoor Track is Off and Running
The Reggie Lewis Center was the site of the opening indoor meet
of the season, hosted by Northeastern University.
Several strong performances were turned in including 2 individual
NE DIII qualifying marks by Julie Allstrom and Devon Jennings in
the 500M and 55M dash respectively. Both men's and women's 4x400M
relay teams also qualified for the post season.
11/10/07NCAA Regional Championship
The FSC Cross Country season may have ended on October 27th for
most but for those who qualified the season marched on and it was
no different at the NCAA D3 Regional Championship meet at Connecticut
College for the top FSC men runners and the top FSC lady runners.
Overall the FSC men garnered a 23rd place finish out of a field
of 59 teams. On the FSC ladies side they placed 44th out of 59 teams.
On the Men’s side the top 5 runners for the Falcons were #1 Keon Valcourt
(Brockton MA, Brockton), #2 Matt Spano (Gardner MA, Gardner) #3Adam
Parslow (West Boylston MA, Tahanto Regional/WBHS) #4 Jon Miganowicz
(Templeton MA, Narragansett Regional) #5 Brad Harkins (Tyngsboro
MA, Tyngsboro) to round out the top five scorers. Also representing
were #6 Kyle Schaeffer (Hudson MA, Hudson) and #7 Albert Wong (Merrimack
NH, Merrimack). The top 5 FSC runners were all under a 29:02 in
the 5 mile race. In first for the FSC men was Keon Valcourt coming in
at a 26:43 and placing 104 out of 330 runners; in second for FSC
was Matt Spano in a 27:34 getting 147 place of 330; and in third
for the FSC men was Adam Parslow getting a 28:17 good for 180th
of 330. Coming in 4th for FSC men was Jonathan Miganowicz in 28:29
good for 193rd of 330, in 5th for FSC and coming in at 200rd overall
was Brad Harkins in a 28:36, in 6th Kyle Schaeffer at 223rd place
of 330 and coming in at 29:02 and in 7th for FSC and in 261st of
330 Albert Wong in 30:16.
The top 5 FSC Ladies were #1 Cathryn
Comptois (Hubbardston MA, Quabbin Regional) placing 181 of 344 in
25:40, #2 Emily Sullivan (Billerica MA, Billerica) in 27:36 good
for 271 of 344, and #3 Tess Godin (Fitchburg MA, Fitchburg) 282 of 344
in 27:59. Coming in #4 for FSC is Kristina Gagnon (Tyngsboro MA,
Tyngsboro) 289 of 344 in 28:15 and #5 Christine Kerins (Arlington
MA, Arlington) 292 of 344 in 28:18. Rrounding out the top seven
in 6th and 7th place for the ladies Courtney Kerins (Arlington MA,
Arlington)301 of 344 in 28:55, and Julie Fontana (Malden MA,
Matignon) 316 of 344 in 30:11.
10/27/07Alliance Championships
Both the men's and women's Falcon harrier squads had strong performances
today at the New England Alliance Cross Country Championships hosted
by UMASS Dartmouth. Keon Valcourt led the men's team to a solid
6th place finish among 13 teams with a blazing 26:33 over the 8K
course while Cathryn Comptois led the women to a 9th place team
score with a quick 20:41 for 5K. Every runner on the FSC squads
turned in season best times. Valcourt and Comptois both earned All-Star
honors for their top 20 individual performances. Rounding out the
top seven scoring places for the men were: Matt Spano, Adam Parslow,
Kiley Naro, Jon Miganowicz, Kyle Schaeffer and Albert Wong; while
Tess Godin, Kristina Gagnon, Emily Sullivan, Christie Kerins, Julie
Fontana and Courtney Kerins completed the scoring for the women.
9/29/07 Keene State Invitational
The Fitchburg State Falcon Cross Country teams traveled to Keene,
NH on Saturday for the 13th annual Keene State College Invitational.
The men's team finished in a strong 6th place (of 10 teams) while
the lady harriers finished 8th. Leading the men were: Keon Valcourt
(16th overall) followed by Brad Harkins, Adam Parslow, Albert Wong,
Matt Spano, Jon Miganowicz and Kiley Naro. The ladies were led by
Tess Godin (30th overall), followed closely by Cathryn Comptois,
Kristina Gagnon, Francesca Boggs, Christy Kerins, Julie Fontana
and Heather Nichols.
Both squads travel to Bostons' famed Franklin Park course next
Saturday to compete in the All-New England Championships.
9/22/07 Worcester City Meet
Tess Godin, Kathryn Comptois and Keon Valcourt all earned top-10
finish awards today at the Worcester City Championships held at
Williard Moore State Park in Paxton. Competing in the meet were,
WPI, Worcester State, FSC, Clark and Anna Maria. The men's team
finished 3rd while the women finished 4th. Congratulations to XC
late-comers Amanda Beaulieau and Ben Hassey who competed in the
first race. New photos have

9/15/07 Jim Sheehan Memorial Meet
With much cooler weather this week, both the men's and women's
teams posted significantly faster times on the same course as last week.
Tess Godin led the women's squad with a fast 22:16 on the very hilly
5K course while Keon Valcourt blazed a strong 26:09 to
lead the men. FSC next travels to Paxton on 9/22 for the Worcester City
meet.
9/7/07 Falcons XC season is afoot!
The men's and women's harriers opened their seasons tonight hosting
a home meet at Coggshall Park. The men finished in 2nd while the
women's team placed 3rd. FSC hosts their second meet as well, this
friday, 9/14/07 at Coggshall Park at 4pm.
The top five runners for the Men and Women's teams were: Adam Parslow,
Albert Wong, Matt Spano, Brad Harkins, and Keon Valcourt; and Tess
Godin, Cathryn Comptois, Julie Fontana , Francesca Boggs and Kristina
Gagnon respectively.

4/28/07 NE DIII All-Stars
Kyle Wilson and Brandon Jean led the Falcons today with a second
place finish in the Pole Vault (14-4) and 7th place in the Javelin
respectively at Springfield College.
Also performing well were Kelton Francis in the 200M (22.6), Lindsey
Pillsbury in the 400M and 200M (62.12 and 27.7) the 4x100M Relay
team of Emily Sullivan, Lindsey Pillsbury, Elissa Gorecki and Jen
Tabor and the 4x800M Relay team of Lindsey Pillsbury, Michelle
Mjoen, Elissa Gorecki and Emily Sullivan and Tess Godin in the
10,000M.
4/28/07 MASCAC Championship Recap
7-time MASCAC All-Star Tess Godin got the Falcons off to a quick
start at FSC's Elliot Field for the first ever collegiate meet
hosted on the new track. Tess won the 10,000M run with a New England
qualifying time of 43:45. Joining Tess in the winners circle were
fellow seniors Lindsey Pillsbury winning the 400M (62.21) and Kyle
Wilson winning the Pole Vault (14-9). Kyle's performance was also
a meet record.

3/31/07 FSC Track Out Fast in Season Opener
The Fitchburg State College Men's and Women's track squads headed
south to Trinity College in Hartford Connecticut Saturday to be
greeted with fantastic early spring weather near 60 degrees.
Great
early season performances were turned in by: Brandon Jean, 2nd
in Javelin at 174-2 and 7th in the Shot Put at 39-4; Kyle Wilson,
2nd in Pole Vault 14-3; Lindsey Suprenant 5th in Hammer Throw 88-4
and the Women's 4x100M team of Emily Sullivan, Lindsay Pillsbury,
Elissa Gorecki and Jen Tabor who placed 4th in 52.82.
Other strong
performances were turned in by Keon Valcourt 1500M/4:15.46, Shane
McDowell 400M/53.61, Devon Jennings 100M/11.78, Brian Gillespie
Hammer/114-9, Peter Tervo 200M/23.97 and Kelton Francis 200M/23.98.
The Falcons will be hosting their first collegiate meet at their
brand new Elliot Field facility next Saturday April 7th at the "Jim
Sheehan Memorial Meet". Jim was a long time coach of the Falcons
who recently lost a long and courageous battle to cancer.

2/10/07 Falcons Track Claims 5 Gold Medals
FSC Falcon Men's and Women's teams earned 5 first place finishes
Saturday at the MASCAC League Championships hosted by Tufts University
en routThe e to stellar team performances where the Women placed 2nd
and the Men finished 3rd.
Tess Godin started the medal spree with
her first place in the Mile run in 5:40 followed by Keon Valcourt
winning the Mile in 4:37. Next, Lindsay Pillsbury earned two first
place honors in the 400M and 200M in 62.18 and 28.41 respectively.
Kyle Wilson finished off the gold haul winning his specialty, the
Pole Vault, with a 14-3 clearance. Kyle's mark set a new meet record.
The Men's team performance could not have been realized without
the help of: Brad Harkins (4th-600M), Steve Berry (6th-600M), Shane
McDowell (3rd-800M), Jon Miganowicz (5th-800M), Kyle Wilson (5th-LJ),
Brian Gillespie (3rd-Weight), Jon Meserve (5th-Mile), Brian Schell
(3rd-400M), Jack Hart (6th-400M), Albert Wong (5th-1000M), Keon
Valcourt (6th-1000M), Steve Berry (4th-HJ), Billy Flynn (5th-55HH),
Kyle Higginbotham (6th-55HH), the 4x800M relay (2nd), the 4x400M
relay (3rd) and Brandon Jean (4th-Shot) Freshman Brandon Jean's
effort was a 5 ft. improvement over his previous best as he threw
42-9 with the 16lb. Shot.
The Women's team performance could not have been possible without

Emily Sullivan (4th-1000M), Kristina Gagnon (6th-1000M), Tess Godin

1/20/07 FSC Back on Track After Holiday Break
After a long holiday break layoff, the FSC Men's and Women's Teams
are back in action, having competed at Tufts University the past
two weeks.
On 1/20/07 Lindsey Pillsbury qualified for the NE DIII Championships
with a blazing 1:24.68 in the 500M run. Other season best performances
were turned in by Jon Miganowicz-3000M/10:03, Albert Wong-3000M/10:24,
Christina Gagnon- Mile/6:20.89, Peter Tervo- 55M/7.03, Billy
Flynn-55MHH/8.77, Kyle Higginbotham-55MHH/9.37 and Brandon
Jean-Shot Put/36-7 and Weight Throw/34-6.
12/16/06 Wilson soars 15-1, sets new FSC record
Vaulter Kyle Wilson once again upped his personal best in
the pole vault, this time to 15'-1" earning him the FSC indoor
track record. The previous record of 15'-0', set by John Baker
in 1982, stood for 24 years. Baker still holds the FSC outdoor
track record at 15'-3".
Other athletes who are out to a quick start and have qualfied
for the NE DIII championship include: Liz Hardiman-Triple Jump,
Lindsey Surprenant-Shot Put and both the Men's and Women's 4x400
relay teams.
More strong team leading performances include: Devon Jennings-55M/6.86, Malcolm
Wilbur-55M/6.86, William Neiman-Shot/37-6 and Tess Godin in Mile/5:48.21
and 3000M/11:55.60.
The next official team meet is at Tufts University on 1/13/07.
10/28/06 Valcourt named Alliance All-Star
In weather only avid runners would dare brave, Keon Valcourt
earned All-Star status for the second time in two weeks. Withstanding
whipping winds, 50 meter long mud puddles and a field of 14
schools, Valcourt raced to a 20th place finish and earned the respect
of many.
Freshman Kristina Gagnon was the top FSC female to brave the course
conditions at Keene State College, followed closely by Tess Godin
and Emily Sullivan.
10/21/06 FSC Places 4th at MASCAC
Both the Men's and Women's teams finished 4th at the MASCAC Championships
held at Westfield State College. Keon Valcourt and
Tess Godin both earned MASCAC All-Star awards for their top-10
finishes of 9th and 10th respectively.
10/07/06 Harriers Compete at All-New Englands
The FSC harriers competed at Franklin park today against the best
competion NE has to offer, including divison 1 and 2 schools. The
Men's team was the top placing Massachusetts State College on the
day while the women ran strong, they did not field a full team
for scoring purposes. Several women sat out the day in preparation
for the Conference Championship meet on 10/21 in Westfield. Leading
the men was sophomore Keon Valcourt who turned in a season best
performance running 27:37. Phil McCormack (pictured right) ran
the last 2 miles of the race with one shoe–ouch!
9/30/06 Cross
Country Teams Shaping Up
The Men's and Women's teams both competed at Keene State College
today. Both squads continue to see strong improvements through
their first 3 outings. FSC travels to Franklin Park this week to
compete in the All-NE Championships. The men's team has been led
to date by Sophomore Keon Valcourt and Senior Chris Keegan. The
women's squad has shared the lead duties among senior Tess Godin,
sophomore Emily Sullivan and freshman Francesca Boggs.
5/06/06 Pillsbury Shines at NE DIII Championships
Pole Vault specialist Kyle Wilson finished 3rd today in the Pole
Vault. Kyle was the highest placing athlete for FSC on the day
but Lindsey Pillsbury was clearly the highlight for the Falcon's
teams. Lindsey had previously qualified in 5 events 3 individual
(200m, 400m, Triple Jump) and as a memeber of both relays (4x100m,
4x 400m). She blistered the track in both of her open races setting
PR's in both, 27.17 in the 200M and 60.13 in the 400m. Her 400m
effort placed 7th earning her NE All-Star status. She also helped
the 4 x 100m relay team with Emily Sullivan, Elissa Gorecki and
Joanne Waterhouse knock a whopping 2 seconds of the season best
time. The 4 x 400m relay with Sullivan, Gorecki and senior captain
Nancy Stronach also smashed their season best time by over 6 seconds
with a 4:23.9.
4/08/06 Valcourt & Wilson earn Individual MASCAC Champion
Titles
Keon Valcourt, running in only his second ever 3000M steeplechase,
knocked 34 seconds off his time and torched the field in the League
Championship Meet. His time of 10:12.30 also qualified him for
the NE DIII Championships.
The other individual winner was Kyle Wilson. Kyle won his specialty,
the Pole Vault, soaring 14-6. Kyle is a 5-time League Champ in
both indoor and outdoor track.
Overall, the Men's and Women's teams turned in 38 League All-Star
performances (top 6 per event).
4/08/06 Performances Heating Up Despite Cold Temps
The Men's and Women's squads are off to a hot start in this season
despite meet day temperatures in the 30's.
Leading the men's efforts is Kyle Wilson who set a new personal
best in the Pole Vault today at Tufts University. Kyle soared 14-9.
This effort qualifies him for several post season championships
including the All-New Englands (Division 1 Championships).
On the Women's side, a pair of first season Juniors are showing
the way. Gretchen Adams toss of 106-5 in the Javelin and Lindsey
Pillsbury 400m time of 62.3, have both qualified for the New England
DIII Championships.
Other team leading performances for the men are Keon Valcourt
(1500 and 5000), Brian Schell (400), Shane McDowell (800), Chris
Keegan (800) and Brian Gillespie (Javelin and Hammer).
Other strong performances to date by the women have been posted
by Adams (Hammer Throw), Pillsbury (Triple Jump), Elissa Gorecki
(High Jump) and Emily Sullivan (Pole Vault). Emily posted a new
school record last week with a clearance of 8-6. |
